At Tuesday's school board meeting, the the Bay District Schools Board approved the first phase of construction. Groundbreaking is set to start March 3.

Officials say the project is estimated to total around $20 million, but they say they’ll continue to work with the contractors throughout the process to bring the price down.

Lee Walters, the director of facilities for Bay District Schools said, “We’ve had a lot of conversations and bids come back from our construction manager but we want to keep working on tweaking some of the final pieces of the puzzle.”

Officials say construction on the new STEM building should be done in 12 to 16 months.
