The Casa Laxmi Foundation, Inc. submitted paperwork to amend the land use designation of approximately 231 acres from Conservation to Public/Institutional. The plot of land is in Fanning Bayou.
The Casa Laxmi Foundation plans to develop a private boarding school complete with dorms, athletic facilities, and temporary housing for family members who may be visiting students.
Bay County Commissioner Robert Carroll said, "As part of the process they wanted the land use changed to public/institutional. So because of the size of the project, we have to transmit it to the state, so today [Tuesday] was just the approval of the hearing to send it to the state. It will then come back to us for us to adopt the zoning on it to make it public/institutional."
Carroll added that the process to hear back from the state typically takes about 45 days.
