Firefighters are battling the Timbercrest Road fires in Fountain. Timbercrest Road West fire is 100 acres and is 60% contained. Timbercrest Road East fire is 85 acres and is 75% contained.

Officials say homes on the opposite side of Timbercrest Road are being protected by the Bay County Fire Rescue.

According to the Florida Forrest Service, the fire is in a heavily wooded area with a lot of damage from Hurricane Michael.

The Florida Forrest Service says because of the location and current weather conditions, the fire has the potential to become larger.

Smoke from the fire could impact viability on roadways and drivers are asked to use caution and treat the smoke as they would fog.

The Florida Forrest Service says they have called in extra resources to battle the fire including a helicopter to drop water and help cool any hot spots, a fixed-wing aircraft to scout ahead of ground crews, and additional tractor-plow units.

Officials are recommending residents be extremely cautious with outdoor burning and authorizations for large pile, acreage, or broadcast burns are not being authorized in Bay, Walton, Gulf, Calhoun, Jackson, Holmes and Washington counties.
