CALLAWAY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Hurricane Michael ripped the roofs off of homes and forced some people to relocate.
Alfred, who lives in Callaway, has been living in a condemned trailer.
His fate changed Tuesday at Callaway Community Church when an organization called PanhandleRelief.org teamed up with Pursuit Boats and donated a camper to him.
Sunrise Marine and Legendary Marine created the website PanhandleRelief.org to benefit hurricane survivors.
Pursuit Boats partnered with the website to purchase three camper trailers. The third one was given away Tuesday morning.
"People living in these condemned trailers that are not livable. They don't have a bathroom, don't have a roof, they're living under tarps and we just felt that we needed to do something," Peggy King, Regional Marketing Manager for OneWater Marine, said.
Sunrise Marine and Legendary Marine are under the OneWater Marine parent company based out of Atlanta.
Their website has raised more than $175,000 for hurricane relief efforts.
King said, "People are becoming numb to it and that's not the case at all. These are our neighbors, these are our fellow Floridians and they're having a hard time and we need to step up."
