Casa Laxmi Foundation will break ground on school by end of the year

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - In 2019, the Casa Laxmi Foundation announced it was building a school in Bay County, which would be an international boarding school and bring more than 350 jobs to our area.

Officials with the Bay Economic Development Alliance said the Casa Laxmi Foundation is currently surveying and permitting the property and they've also hired a local architect to do the site planning. Bay EDA President Becca Hardin said the project costs more than a $100 million and the Casa Laxmi Foundation is paying for majority of it.

The foundation also submitted a pre-application to get money from Triumph Gulf Coast to help pay for the project. However, they were not eligible because the project didn't meet all the requirements. Hardin said they plan to complete the first phase of the project and re-apply again with a full application.

"It solidifies their commitment to this part of Florida that they've started., broken ground and already putting bricks and mortar up. It's just a decision that the Triumph board will make. They want to see that the company is committed to bring the project into flourish in the area,” Hardin said.

Hardin said the campus will be around 250 acres and the foundation plans on breaking ground by the end of the year. She said they expect to have the school open a year after they start construction.
