BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Bay County man was sentenced to more than 100 years in prison for child abuse.

Tuesday, a Bay County judge sentenced Michael Carson to 105 years in prison and designated him a habitual felony offender. Carson was found guilty of three counts of aggravated child abuse and three counts of child neglect causing bodily harm or permanent disfigurement in November.

In 2014, Carson burned a 5-year-old girl with a lighter, beat her with a belt buckle, whipped her, and burned her in scalding water over a period of time. Carson never tried to get medical care for the girl's injuries.

The girl was rescued by a worker with Family First Network when she saw the injuries while on an unannounced home visit with the child's aunt. The worker immediately reported the abuse and injuries to law enforcement and the Child Abuse Hotline.

Carson has 13 prior felonies.
