Cold weather shelter opens in Walton County

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fl. (WJHG/WECP) -- Walton County Emergency Management has activated the Cold Weather Emergency Shelter Plan for Walton County this evening Tuesday, December 4, 2018.

This shelter will open beginning at 5:30 p.m and will close at 7:00a.m., Wednesday, December 5th.

The cold weather shelter will be located at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center, 361 North 10th Street, DeFuniak Springs, Fl. 32433.

In accordance with this plan, the Matrix Community Center will be coordinating all staffing and resource requirements for the official Walton County cold weather emergency shelter.

The National Weather Service predicts a temperature of below 40°F in Walton County. Freezing temperatures are possible late tonight through tomorrow morning, Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

Walton County Emergency Management will continue to monitor weather developments and make additional announcements as necessary.
