Congressman Neal Dunn discusses approved government budget

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - President Donald Trump signed off on a nearly $1.4 trillion spending budget Friday. A big talker for our area, the Disaster Tax Relief included in the bill.

"Access to 401ks and IRA's without any penalty and you can refill it, it's a loan you can take from your own pension plan and pay it back with no interest," Congressman Neal Dunn said.

All together this is about a $1.9 billion increase in disaster funding for the nation.

"We got an additional $1.5 billion from 2017 over-funded, so we pulled that over from the 18 and 19, and added another 400 million in block grant department of agriculture," Dunn said.

Another win for our area, $2.4 billion approved for rebuilding Tyndall Air Force Base.

"So that takes care of the entire rebuild of Tyndall Air Force Base for the next five years and it's all in the 2020 fiscal year appropriation, that's been signed by the president, that's immensely good news for Tyndall Air Force Base, it's done, we are going to have a 21st Century 5th generation fighter base," Dunn said.

Two major victories for our area still recovering from Hurricane Michael more than a year later.
