Crestview police searching for person of interest in possible murder

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Crestview police are searching for a suspect in connection with a possible murder Monday evening.

They say Tywon Tatum, 32, was shot in the chest just after 6 p.m. on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near the intersection of Gordon Street. Police say Tatum was unresponsive when they arrived and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say they're investigating the motive for the shooting.

They're looking for a person of interest, Tony Byrd, 21, in connection with the case. They say he was last seen wearing dark pants and driving off in a red car. Byrd has distinctive tattoos which include the initials “NFL” tattooed on his neck near his throat and a tattoo of cursive writing around his collar.

Police believe Byrd may be armed with a black pistol and he is considered to be dangerous.

If anyone knows his whereabouts, they are asked to avoid making contact with him and to immediately dial 911 or call the Crestview Police Department at 850-682-2055.
