Day one in court for Panama City Mall and PC Cinemas

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - In January the Panama City Mall began the legal process to forcibly evict its movie theater tenants. Wednesday morning, lawyers for the mall and VIP Cinemas, which owns PC Cinemas, met for the first time in court.

VIP Cinemas is asking for more time to request and study additional documentation from KDI Panama Mall, the company that runs the mall.

The mall's attorney argued the movie theater is just trying to postpone a trial but an attorney for the movie theater says not so... and they are being treated unfairly.

Cliff Higby, an attorney representing VIP Cinemas, says, "The mall owners have already made statements and comments about redeveloping the mall. We think they're taking advantage of us so that they can redevelop and not have us in the way, so to speak."

The lawyer representing the Panama City Mall had no comment on the matter.
