BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - January 9 is a day to honor our men and women in blue. It's National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day!

You can show your support for our local law enforcement in many different ways. You can wear blue or share a story on social media about a positive law enforcement experience.

Deputy Casey Melton with the Bay County Sheriff's Office says some may not realize officers and deputies struggle with hard times. Sometimes they have to miss holidays, birthdays, or other special occasions to come out and perform their duties.

"You don't get that time back, so on National Law Enforcement Day Appreciation Day, it is nice and it does feel good to have one day where somebody walks up and says, 'Hey, thank you,'" Deputy Melton said.

Corporal Aubrey Chance with the BCSO Criminal Investigations Division says he has a passion to serve.

"I like being here helping people and the citizens of Bay County. It is something I get overjoyed about and something I enjoy coming to work for," Corporal Chance said.
