During Wednesday's Airport Authority Board meeting, Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport got the green light for the design of a new taxiway and a large aircraft parking apron, according to the airport's Executive Director, Parker McClellan.
He said the hope with these updates is to boost the economic development of the airport.
He also said to the west of the location, there will be an area that can create space for expanded ramps.
"The long-term goal of the area and just around this public parking area will be large aircraft hangars, which could be used for maintenance repair, overhaul, for painting, for anything like that, for larger aircraft," McClellan said.
He told us the goal is to enter the construction phrase at the end of the year or early next year.
