TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has revealed this year's new manatee and sea turtle decals.
Every July, the FWC releases new manatee and sea turtle decals available with a $5 donation. These stickers give people the chance to support research, rescue, and management efforts that conserve these species.
“When someone purchases a manatee or sea turtle decal and displays it, they’re not only contributing financially to conservation,” Carol Knox, who leads the FWC’s Imperiled Species Management Section, said. “They’re raising awareness about these species and specific issues they face. It’s a simple way to make a difference for Florida wildlife.”
FWC officials say more than 6,000 manatees swim in the state's coastal waters, rivers, and freshwater springs. They say about 20,000 sea turtles nest on Florida's beaches each year.
FWC officials say you can get a decal when you register or re-registering a vehicle or boat at a local tax collector's offices across the state.
