An early Tuesday morning car crash in Panama City left one person dead and another seriously injured.
Panama City Police said they responded to the accident at 15th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard a little after 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to police, an officer saw a black Lexus sedan speeding eastbound on 15th Street. The officer said as he was about to pull the car over for speeding when he witnessed it collide with another vehicle while crossing the intersection.
The block of 15th street between MLK Blvd and Palo Alto Ave was closed for hours as Pamama City Police investigated the crash.
"We found that the vehicles did collide in the intersection creating a debris field a whole city block long," Panama City Chief of Police Scott Ervin said. "From the looks of things, obviously speed is a factor in this. They were observed travelling at a high rate of speed and based on the evidence we're seeing high speed was an absolute factor in this."
Police said they still don't know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The names of those involved in the crash will be released once the families are notified.
