DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Firefighters from all over Walton County teamed up and were able to save a local transformer company.
According to the Walton County Fire Rescue, around 11:26 p.m. Wednesday the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department, Walton County Fire Rescue, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, and the Walton County Sheriff's Officer all responded to a fire at Florida Transformer, Inc. in DeFuniak Springs.
Firefighters say when they arrived there was heavy black smoke coming from one of the buildings containing dangerous chemicals and electrical equipment. They say knowing an explosion was imminent, they jumped into action.
Firefighters cut off power to the facility. They entered the building to find flames coming from one of the ovens housing multiple transformers. Firefighters say they battled the blaze for a few minutes before it was extinguished. They say they cleared the scene around 2 a.m. Thursday.
Firefighters do not know the cause of the fire at this time.
