BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Florida Forest Service is issuing burn authorizations again.

Last month, Bay Gulf, Calhoun, and Jackson Counties were not given authorizations to burn due to the dry conditions in our area. Friday, that all changed.

If you're going to burn debris, the Florida Forest Service wants you to remember these rules:
-Only open burning of vegetative debris (leaves, tree limbs, trimmings) is permitted.
-Burning household garbage, construction debris, furniture, or any other material is always prohibited.
-Burn debris on the property it came from only.
-Check with local and county officials to find out if there are any restrictions in your area.

If you are going to burn, the Florida Forest Service says you must be 25 feet from forests, 50 feet from paved roads, 25 feet from your house, and 150 feet from other occupied buildings.

They say if your pile of debris is greater than eight feet in diameter, you must get authorization from the Florida Forest Service.
