Florida's Lieutenant Governor tours hurricane devastation

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Florida's Lieutenant Governor made a stop in Bay County Wednesday to tour hurricane devastation and meet with some of the area's medical leaders.

Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez started her afternoon on a helicopter tour of Mexico Beach with Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford. She then visited the Florida Department of Health in Bay County.

After that Nuñez toured Bay Medical Sacred Heart led by the hospital's president.

And despite the destruction that still exists in our area, Nuñez says she's optimistic about the future.

"I think as we continue to push forward on the recovery efforts and rebuilding and the resiliency I think this community is going to see not just the population that they lost perhaps come back but grow stronger, grow stronger as a community and really focus on the opportunities that exist," she said.

Following her tour at the hospital, Nuñez paid a visit to Tyndall Air Force Base.
