Flotation devices at beach vendors

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Panama City Beach officials are working to make a trip to the Gulf a visit everyone can come home from.

Panama City Beach City Council members will vote on September 12th if flotation devices will be at every beach vendor stand. (WJHG/WECP)

At Thursday's council meeting, members went over the first reading of a new flotation device ordinance.

This would require beach vendors on the white sand to have a class four, Coast Guard approved, flotation device on them and have others for sale.

Council members say they feel like this is a step in the right direction for keeping people safe on the beach.

"I do feel like it's progress, putting those flotation devices down there because it's been proven that people will go in the water any how without anything and that's the last thing you wanna do is to have somebody going in the water to try to save a loved one without any type of rescue devices," Council Member Paul Casto said.

The council will make the official vote at the September 12th meeting.
