Good Friday morning everyone and TGIF!
Meteorologist Ryan Michaels says the heat is on heading into the Memorial Day Weekend.
It's a quiet start on radar this morning with just a few clouds cruising our skies and some patchy fog. But boy oh'boy is it ever warm and humid! You could really feel that steam bath yesterday on the coast and it'll be a similar setup for today, if not, even more humid...
Temperatures have yet to fall out of the 70s for most this morning with dew points well into the sultry 70s outside today. Get ready for a big-time summery trend heading into our Memorial Day Weekend. Yesterday was quite toasty warm in the afternoon with highs topping out in just the mid 80s. Today, we'll see mid to upper 80s on the coast to near 90° inland and the humidity is going to be just a stifling.
Your Comfort Index today will easily reach the Very Humid range if not into the Oppressive category for some areas on the coast. That'll give us feels like, or a heat index, in the low 90s this afternoon for all.
The heat and humidity will bring back a chance for rain this afternoon, albeit, a very small one today. The sea breeze front and daytime heating will create enough lift to get a few stray showers popping up north of I-10 this afternoon heading further north into the Wiregrass.
However, this summery pattern of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm developing, especially away from the coast, is going to become a bit more of a staple in the forecast for the next several days with increasing rain chances inland. Today's rain chance may only be around 10% for inland areas, I've got my eye on Jackson County and areas around Marianna today. Tomorrow's rain chance will go up to about 20% for areas away from the coast and we could see that shower or storm development flare up a bit further south along Highway 20. This will be the going trend throughout our Memorial Day weekend; afternoon sea breeze storms away from the coast and hot temperatures.
For today, mostly sunny skies with a stray afternoon shower near the Tri-State. Temperatures will be hot and humid in the mid to upper 80s for most and feeling like the low 90s. Your 7 Day Forecast keeps us running with this big-time summery pattern right through the holiday weekend and into next week...hello summer!
