PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - If you've been driving around town you may have noticed lower gas prices in some areas.
According to AAA, gas prices are dropping in Florida. (MGN)
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in Florida is $2.62, which they say is about 16 cents lower than the national average.
Locally, after gas prices skyrocketed in the wake of Hurricane Michael, locals say they're happy to see the prices returning to normal for the time being.
Some places like Walmart or Sam's Club have even lower prices.
Amanda Hood, a resident stopping for gas said, "I'm excited. I pulled up expecting to pay like $2.70 and it's $2.33, I think, so I'm happy. I was just in Tampa and gas was cheaper in Tampa than it was here so now I can say we have comparable prices."
For some who have farther to travel than most, the lower prices are easier on their wallets.
Sandra Flores, another resident said, "It helps us keep a couple dollars in our pocket to buy groceries. We have to travel 40 miles every day to take [my daughter] to school so it helps a lot."
Locals we spoke to say $3.00 a gallon is too high.
Back in 2016 AAA reported drivers thought $2.50 was too high.
