OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The man accused of kicking a three-year-old girl in the head has been indicted for first-degree felony murder in her death.
State Attorney Bill Eddins' Office announced Thursday an Okaloosa County Grand Jury has indicted Cory Hagwell for first-degree felony murder in the death of three-year-old Adelynn Merrell. The press release also says Hagwell was indicted on two counts of child neglect concerning two other minor children in the home.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded to a missing child call November 9th. Investigators say they found Adelynn's body in the woods less than a mile from the home.
Investigators say Adelynn suffered blunt impact injuries to her head as well as over her body. Deputies say the child's mother told them Hagwell was punishing the girl for getting out of her car seat.
Deputies also said the other children in the home were found to be severely malnourished and they were often kept in bedrooms or closets.
