Keep PCB Beautiful celebrates first anniversary January 25

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - When Keep PCB Beautiful first started, member Kim Christian said it was just a group of friends keeping a small area of our beaches clean.

"We started as a very small group, just met on the beach for sunset and beverages, and cleaned up for an hour, and it kind of just evolved from there," said Christian.

January 25 marks the first anniversary of Keep PCB Beautiful affiliating with Keep America Beautiful, and in the past year, they say they've accomplished a lot.

"With the help of volunteers and other organizations, we've picked up over, almost, 10,000 pounds of trash in this community. We kept 40 pounds of cigarette butts out of the gulf through an initiative we put out with our cigarette litter prevention campaign. We put out 54 cigarette litter receptacles," said Christian.

They partnered with local businesses and organizations to hold 47 events and say they have many plans for this coming year.

"What we really want this year to be about is partnering even more [with local businesses] because what we know is we have America's most beautiful beaches, and with all of the businesses around those beaches, if we can all just do something, it will add up to something huge," said Christian.

Christian said she is proud to see what the group has been able to do in just a year.

"2019 was a cool year when you put it all together, and you look at the totals, it was really exciting for us because not only does that set the foundation because it was our first year, it also gives us that jumping point for this year and the years to come, and to see what else we can do and just continue to keep PCB beautiful," said Christian.
