BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Local law enforcement officers make sacrifices that often go beyond the call of duty, so law enforcement appreciation day aims to thank those who protect the community.

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford said it means a lot to him and his colleagues to have the support of locals.

"It means everything to us to have the support of our community, because we can't do this job without the community, without them being behind us, without them providing information to us, and just supporting what we do," said Ford.

Community and church leaders spoke at Panama City Seventh-day Adventist Church, thanking the sheriff's office for their service throughout the year.

"Law enforcement is a profession that draws strong people of heart, mind, and character. We are so thankful for the important and selfless work of our men and women in uniform," said Robert Carroll, Bay County Commission.

The sheriff's office was also thanked for the sacrifices they made during Hurricane Michael.
