PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Black Friday is called the biggest shopping day of the year. Local shoppers in Panama City Beach spent the day checking out the deals at Pier Park.
"I'm so excited about it, I am looking forward to getting all of my Christmas shopping done for everybody," shopper Jessica Dowden said.
Shoppers made their way to Pier Park hours before stores even opened to wait in line to save.
"The first one hundred customers get a swag bag and it's like the best one we've ever done," Lizard Thicket Owner, Casey Johnston said.
For some shoppers, camping out at local women's apparel and accessory store Lizard Thicket is a tradition.
"Ever since I was really young, I can remember going out and my mom and me going Black Friday shopping from 10 to 5 in the morning, it's just always been a tradition for us," shopper Jordan Hormilla said.
While others experienced Black Friday shopping for the first time.
"Usually my mom goes out and I stay at home, but now I'm actually out and it's pretty cool," shopper Ji'Lisa Daniels said.
Pier Park's Director of Marketing says they are anticipating a big crowd.
"We've already seen a ton of shopping bags, so people are here early, they are getting their deals, they are getting exactly what they want," Pier Park Director of Marketing Syara Perez said. "I would come with a game plan, no the stores you want to come to and just have a great time."
Store owners, like Bill Love, who owns the Southern Living store, also predicts a successful day.
"We are expecting it to be a huge day, we've been in existence for three years, it is always our largest day of the year, and we are expecting to have a record day," Love said.
Stores opened earlier than normal and many will stay open later for the busiest shopping day of the year.
"I'm looking forward to getting done, and then going back to my baby," Dowden said.
