Man sentenced to 25 years in prison for trafficking heroin

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Joseph Wagner of Fort Walton Beach was sentenced to a 25 year minimum mandatory prison sentence for trafficking in heroin. He was also sentenced to 10 years for tampering with physical evidence.

Wagner has to serve the entire 25 year sentence. Wagner was also ordered to 5 years state supervision after his release from prison.

Wagner was arrested in Fort Walton Beach after police got an anonymous tip that someone with an active warrant was in a hotel.

When police arrived, Wagner's wife opened the door. Officers smelled marijuana when she opened the door. When they were searching the room they found Wagner hiding in the bathroom.

Wagner tried to flush a gray object, later found out to be heroin, in the toilet. While Wagner was handcuffed he tried to kick the toilet handle to flush the heroin but failed.

Wagner was found guilty by a jury on October 29, 2019.
