Marianna Police: Man barricades himself in home; police and Bay County SWAT respond

MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to the Marianna Police Department, multiple agencies, including Bay County SWAT, assisted in a situation where a man barricaded himself inside a home Saturday.

Police said Marianna police responded to a home on Old Cottondale Rd. in reference to aggravated assault.

The victim reportedly stated while she was at her home, in a different location, she got into a verbal altercation with a man she identified as Quinton Beckwith, 29.

According to police, the victim said Beckwith threatened to kill her. They said the victim told them Beckwith had a handgun.

Officers reportedly attempted to make contact with Beckwith at the victim's residence. Officials said Beckwith had a felony warrant for his arrest.

They said when Beckwith saw law enforcement, he fled into the residence, leading to a chase. He reportedly made aggressive actions towards the officers and then barricaded himself in the home.

According to police, officers created a protective perimeter around the residence and requested backup and assessed the situation for risks.

Police requested the assistance of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.

Officials said Bay County SWAT was able to peacefully negotiate Beckwith’s surrender.

Beckwith was placed under arrest and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

Police said Jackson Sheriff’s Department, Bay County Sheriff’s Department, Marianna Fire and Rescue, and Jackson County Fire and Rescue also assisted.

Beckwith was charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest without violence, Criminal Mischief greater than 1,000, and Possession of Ammunition as a Felon.
