MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Marianna police are asking for the public's assistance in tracking down a suspect in an attempted burglary.

Officers say they received a call Sunday evening around 7:50 p.m. in reference to suspicious activity at a residence on Stuart Avenue. They say that a white male dressed in all black attempted to enter the home from the back door. When one of the children inside the home heard someone, they quickly turned on the porch light. Then, the suspect was seen jumping from the porch and fleeing on foot.

The suspect is described as a middle aged white male that is about 6-feet-tall with a medium build and a dark colored beard.

At about 8:30 p.m., a resident on Miltonia Avenue, one block east of Stuart Avenue, heard a knock at the front door. When the resident did not open the door, a knock at the front window was also heard. The resident contacted the Marianna Police Department, but no one was found in the area. Due to the location and time frame of both suspicious incidents, they are believed to be related.

The Marianna Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in providing any additional information in reference to this incident. Residents are reminded to keep their doors locked and report any suspicious activity.
