BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Marijuana could soon be in your child's school, but it's perfectly legal.
The Bay District School Board voted to advertise the use of medical marijuana for qualified patients. A parent or parent-designated adult would have to administer it for the student, not a school health employee.
"In order not cross over into that threshold and have medical marijuana on campus and in control of school personnel, we put that as a parent responsibility," Superintendent Bill Husfelt said.
He explained this is in accordance with state law.
"The law doesn't require that we have to let employees do that. That is a personal family decision and they provide the distribution of that to their children at the times when it's needed," he said.
Medical marijuana cannot be administered on a school bus or at a school-sponsored event, and it excludes products that can be smoked or inhaled.
The decision will be brought to a final vote in the coming months.
