The position is a new one for the district, which comes in light of the major mental health needs after Hurricane Michael. The coordinator will monitor all students that are Baker Acted and work with all health agencies that work with the district.
"We have to have a mental health coordinator because of the challenges we're dealing with, we have hundreds of students that need services, and the need to protect our students and offer them aid and assistance is just continuing to rise," said Superintendent Bill Husfelt.
The money for the position comes from the Parkland fund and funding received since Hurricane Michael.
