Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathey says after Hurricane Michael an ordinance was put in place that allowed homeowners to put campers on their property.
He says the time for that is expired.
At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, members discussed what they should do moving forward for those still living in campers and RVs in the city.
Cathey says they want to make sure those living in campers are still actively trying to rebuild their homes.
“We are concerned that many people have simply taken advantage and are here and have a camper but have done nothing to start the rebuild process," said Mayor Cathey.
He says they’ll continue to nail down the process of checking on the campers and will bring it up again at the next city council meeting.
