Good Monday morning everyone!
Meteorologist Ryan Michaels says scattered, hit or miss, storms that develop inland this afternoon will move down toward the coast by the day's end.
It's a quiet start over land on radar this morning after a batch of storms developed out of the Gulf overnight, yet they're heading south. We'll see some cloud cover off those storms however through the early morning hours. However, we'll get our fair share of sunshine throughout the midday before more afternoon storms flare up.
Otherwise, it's a seasonal morning with temperatures starting out in the mid 70s. We'll have another toasty afternoon ahead, but not as hot as yesterday afternoon where temperatures reached the triple digits in far Northwestern Florida, like Crestview and DFS. Highs today only reach the low to mid 90s, with feels like temperatures returning to the triple digits.
That daytime heating paired with a sinking frontal boundary into the Southeast will set the stage for some afternoon storms to develop. Steering flow will take the storms that develop inland by mid afternoon and move them down to the coast by the end of the afternoon and into the evening. They'll be widely scattered over the Panhandle, but fairly likely you'll catch one either today or tomorrow.
However, better rain chances are heading our way this week as this frontal system sinks south into the Gulf. We're expecting a low pressure system to develop off of this front in the warm waters of the Gulf. There's a chance it may develop into a tropical low come Wednesday or Thursday around our coastal waters of NWFL. However, steering flow in the atmosphere should send this low on its way toward Texas by Friday and into the upcoming weekend. Regardless of development, we'll expect our rain chances to go up starting Wednesday through Friday, where some bouts of heavy rain can be expected. Rainfall amounts may reach up to 3" in some spots, especially closer to the coast. Localized heavier amounts of up to 4-8" could be possible.
For today, partly sunny skies with afternoon scattered storms lingering into the evening for both inland and coastal locations. Highs today reach the low to mid 90s with triple digit feels like temperatures. Your 7 Day Forecast has a very unsettled week ahead with afternoon storms to start the week, and the possibility of soaking storms by the end of the week.
