More housing may be coming to northern Highway 231

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - New housing may be coming to the Highway 231 area.

One property of 23 acres off Highway 390 could soon be the site of new housing in Bay County. (WJHG/WECP)

While it may not look like much now, the piece of property could soon be the site of new housing units. It's located off of Highway 390 just before the intersection with Highway 231.

Bay County commissioners held a public hearing this week regarding changing the future land use of the property from General Commercial to Residential.

We're told the developer would like to build multi-family townhomes on the 23 acres of land

Commissioner Robert Carroll said, "it's rare that we see commercial property that go into residential, but we all know how much need that we still have for housing so it's exciting to see. The growth pattern is going up 231, especially as 231 expands it gets wider so more and more people are living further up 231."

Now the future land use amendment of the property must go to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for review and analysis before it is officially adopted, which could be as soon as March.
