Mussett Bayou fire now 95% contained

NORTHWEST FLORIDA (WJHG/WECP) - The Mussett Bayou fire in Walton County is 95% contained, according to the Florida Forest Service.

Crews remain on scene to deal with any hot spots, and the fire has burned over 300 acres. The Winterhill Road fire is now 85% contained, and that fire has burned 120 acres.

"Well, with the burn ban in place we haven't seen very much activity past that with the human-caused fires, so that's a good thing," said Chipola Forestry Center manager Mike Mathis. "We encourage the public to keep being careful with everything because it's getting pretty dry out there."

Burn bans remain in place across much of the area.
