Name released of diver who passed away during training exercise

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to a release from Congressman Matt Gaetz, the diver who was found dead after a training exercise in Panama City Thursday was Airman First Class Keigan Baker from the 24th Special Operations Wing out of Hurlburt Field, Florida.

UPDATE 03/19/2020 5:00 p.m.:
Officials say the diving student was found dead. They are opening up an investigation to determine the cause of death.
A search and rescue is underway for a missing Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center student.

In a press release it said the student went missing during a routine exercise and was reported missing around 11:30 a.m..

The release said the student was participating in a surface swim in St. Andrew Bay when he was reported missing. The training area is marked with buoys and is a maximum of 20 feet deep.

The NDSTC, Coast Guard Station Panama City, and Bay County Sheriff’s Office are all assisting in the search and rescue effort.
