NICEVILLE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Niceville man is being charged with two counts of attempted premeditated murder after allegedly beating his wife and disabled son while they slept.

Seventy-six-year-old Judson Wood was arrested Monday morning after deputies say he attacked his wife and their disabled son with a metal mallet.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, both were struck multiple times in the head.

Investigators said Wood told them he did it because his own health was declining and his wife was becoming too hard to handle.

He also claimed he had been thinking about "putting [his son] out of his misery" for months.

The two victims are currently in critical condition at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
