One year anniversary of The Red Bar fire

GRAYTON BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Twelve months ago to the day, fire and smoke took over the 25-year-old Red Bar.

Contractors say The Red Bar should be open by summer. (WJHG/WECP)

Now, a new chapter is being written for this Grayton Beach landmark.

"Today we are celebrating the rebirth of The Red Bar and the celebration of coming back," said The Red Bar's Owner, Oliver Petit.

Petit tells us the journey to get to where he and his team are today has not been easy.

"It's been very emotional, as you can imagine, but at the same time it's very rewarding to see the community come together - from neighbors, to local government," said Petit.

"It's going to be better than ever," said Charles Stiles, a longtime friend of Petit's.

Now, thanks to a lot of hard work and dedication, contractors tell us the new Red Bar should open up in the summer of 2020.

"We we're asked to participate in the rebuild, there was no hesitation. It was absolutely - when do you want to get started, let's get it up and running as fast as we can," said Deron Strickman, the general contractor working on The Red Bar.

While contractors are planning on building to the same specifications, Petit is making sure The Red Bar has the same unique feel.

"We're not reinventing the wheel by any means," said Petit.

"I just can't wait to see what they come up with," said Stiles.

This gives locals and visitors a bright red future to look forward to.

"We're so thrilled to be here and come back with a building that's identical to what we had and that's really amazing to us," exclaimed Petit.
