PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Panama City Beach Sports Complex is getting closer to its grand opening every day, and teams are hard at work to make sure everything is running smoothly.
The complex will hold its grand opening on October 5. (WJHG/WECP)
General manager of the complex, JD Wood said, "Every day more and more is done out here at the complex. The main things you'll see different is the connectivity with all the walking paths, everything being concreted, everything being done. The lights are all up on the nine synthetics so we'll have access to playing night games now."
However, there is still work to be done.
Wood added, "It's finishing out the little things, like the sod coming in this week. Finishing up the two championship fields, adding in the rest of the bleachers and having the press boxes added in. It's the little things in between to making sure we get all the amenities all our guests want and deserve."
Some of the added amenities include more shade for spectators and a concession stand.
Wood said, "There's still little nuances that we're getting right but we're inside the building, selling concessions, and had a great week, so it's been good."
Officials say the future is bright and busy for the sports complex.
"We had WSL this weekend, adult softball. Next weekend is WSL as well and then we do baseball for a few weeks," said Wood. "We'll then have our grand opening on October 5 from nine to noon, and then we go into soccer, lacrosse, and football."
