At Tuesday's commission meeting, the board approved a proposed raise for city employees.

The increase will depend on how long the employee has worked for the city and what their job involves. The raise takes effect immediately, so employees will see a difference in their paycheck in two weeks.

Panama City Manager Mark McQueen said, "This is a good thing for our employees and a great thing for our citizens, we can maintain more employees, we can recruit more high-quality employees, and as a result, we can provide better services to our citizens and our community."

There will be an increase in the 2019/2020 budget to reflect the cost of living allowance increase for employees, which is 1.3 percent.
