The department held an award and pinning ceremony to welcome five new firefighters to their team. Two firefighters were promoted and other awards were given out to recognize crews who go above and beyond in their jobs.

They also gave out the Citizen Community Life Saving Award to a local resident who saved her coworker's life.

"I think it's important to our community that they know that we're recognizing them for saving a life. The average citizen's going to walk by, see something, and keep walking, it's those unusual community members and citizens that are going to stop and say 'Oh, something's wrong,' and get involved and help save somebody," said Chief of the Panama City Fire Department Alex R. Baird.

Chief Baird said they give these awards out during the pinning ceremonies to show the community that what they do matters.
