PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Panama City Rescue Mission celebrated the resurrection of Jesus and welcomed spring with an Easter barbecue.
Panama City Rescue Mission hosted its first-ever free community barbecue at Bethel Village Saturday.
The goal was to allow families to celebrate Easter weekend a day before the holiday.
The event served more than 200 people, with two Easter egg hunts, a flag ceremony and a DJ.
"We get busy and go day to day and we forget about just to slow down and breathe and just celebrate what we have today. We all know where we were six months ago prior to Hurricane Michael and then once that hit, I felt like it was a pause. So now we want to celebrate how far we've become and show the community in loving them all at the same time," said Chief Development Officer for Panama City Rescue Mission Shawnte Williams.
Panama City Rescue Mission staff says they hope this is something they can do again next year.
