PORT ST JOE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Port St. Joe residents have thrown their name in the hat for the town to be named the location of HGTV's Home Town Takeover.

The contest involves the stars of the original Home Town, Erin and Ben Napier, traveling to a town and renovating it as they did with their own hometown in Mississippi.

The video entry for Port St. Joe was produced by two Port St. Joe High School students and a teacher. The hope is by getting on the show, recovery efforts from Hurricane Michael will speed up, as well as increase tourism.

"I just think it would mean the world for our community," said Port St. Joe High School Media Specialist Angel Parker. "That they choose us to come in and rebuild after the storm, and that they recognized we have historical charm here."

The video entry has been viewed nearly 50,000 times.
