Residents still making trips to the movies in Panama City

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A trip to the movies can be a great way to spend an afternoon, but thanks to Hurricane Michael, it's not as easy for some Panama City residents.

Both larger movie theaters, the AMC, formerly the Carmike, and the Regency 11 are closed for the time being.

Both sustained heavy damage during the storm.

While officials with PC Cinemas in the mall say they are still in talks about remaining open, they're running new movies for residents to enjoy without having to travel to the beach.

David Lee, the General Manger of PC Cinemas said, "We actually started as a second-run movie house before the storm. After the storm and after we reopened, we became a first-run theater so we're showing newer movies now."

Locals say they're enjoying having a theater still open in town

Jason Helms, who was enjoying a movie with family said, "We've been here three times so far and it's really been great."

The Grand Theater in Pier Park is also open for those on the beach side of the Hathaway Bridge.
