ROSEMARY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Sunday afternoon Rosemary Beach locals gathered to help our four-legged friends at the ninth annual Unleashed event.
All proceeds from the event go towards Alaqua Animal Refuge. (WJHG/WECP)
The event featured a pet parade, dog contests, and more but all the fun and games went towards a great cause.
"It brings our community together in support of a wonderful charity, Alaqua Animal Refuge," said event organizer Malayne DeMars.
The Rosemary Beach Foundation partners with Alaqua to put on the event, and any proceeds go back to the animal refuge to support animals in need of help.
Mary Chris Murry, of Alaqua Animal Refuge, said, "It's a great opportunity for people to bring their pets out and a great opportunity for Alaqua to bring awareness to adopt your pets and don't shop, and learn more about our organization."
Pups of all shapes, sizes, and breeds were out in full force and encouraged to come dressed in costume.
Murry said, "I feel like there's been more people this year and dogs this year than in the past. It's been wonderful, and it's a gorgeous day."
"This is our largest turnout yet," said DeMars.
The Unleashed event is always held the Sunday before Thanksgiving and organizers say they can't wait for next year.
