Students from two schools collaborate to decorate Christmas ornaments

MILLVILLE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Some Bay District Schools students spent Tuesday morning decorating Christmas trinkets and making new friends as two schools partnered to spread holiday cheer.

Tommy Smith Elementary students took a trip to Margaret K. Lewis for the occasion.

Kids had their choice between decorating pine cone Christmas trees, sand dollars, snowflakes, and stones.

The hope is to foster friendship among students from both schools.

"We're always looking for opportunities for our students to mingle and mix and socialize with non-disabled peers, so Mr. Whitfield contacted me about a partnership between our two schools where he would bring kids over to, you know, interact with our students," Lori Hast, Margaret K. Lewis Principal, said.

Tommy Smith Elementary Principal Clint Whitfield said he hopes this partnership will inspire other schools and students to reach out to one another.

"Our motto is, 'Every child, every day,' and it doesn't have to be just at Tommy Smith. I think it's important to have that throughout the entire district, that cohesiveness that we're all in this together," Whitfield said.

Tommy Smith fourth grader Blaise Mosley said his favorite part about the trip was meeting new students from another student.

When asked what his favorite part of the trip was, he told us, "Meeting all the children, having lunch together, playing on the playground together, and having a good time together."
