Suspect in shooting arrested nearly a year later

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a teenager last year has been arrested.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Jacorien Thomas nearly a year after the shooting death of Demetrius Traylor on August 18, 2018. The shooting happened on Cherry Street in Callaway.

Thomas was arrested in Polk County. He is charged with manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm. He is now in the Bay County Jail.

More people are facing charges in connection with a shooting at a Cherry Street trailer park in Callaway over the weekend.

Bay County Sheriff's officials say Brittany Robinson, 21, Amanda Rodriguez, 29, and Dexter Johnson, 28, were arrested following the death of Demetrius Traylor, 19.

They say Jacorien Thomas, 23, fired a gun at Traylor believing it was empty. It wasn't.

Now, more people are facing charges after officials say they helped cover up what happened.

Authorities arrested Shawn Richardson, 33, Tessia Chancellor, 38, and Bruce Hopson, 50, for giving false information.

They also arrested Nikkaro Woodfaulk, 20, and Venteria Porter, 20, on multiple charges.

The alleged shooter, Jacorien Thomas, is still on the loose.


The Bay County Sheriff's Office announced details from Saturday night's shooting in Callaway.

Sheriff's officials said they responded to a call Saturday at about 9 p.m. about a shooting on a lot off of Cherry Street in Callaway.

They said deputies arrived to find Demetrius Traylor, 19, dead with a gunshot wound.

Officials said his body has been turned over to the medical examiner and the BCSO Crime Scene Unit has conducted a forensic examination of the scene.

According to BCSO, after interviewing witnesses, BCSO Criminal Investigations arrested Brittany Robinson, 21, and Amanda Rodriguez, 29.

Officials said both live at the location and are charged with Principle/Accessory to Homicide-Negligent Manslaughter.

They said warrants have been obtained for Jacorien Keion Thomas, 23, for Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

They also said Dexter Tyrone Johnson, 28, was arrested for Accessory to Manslaughter.

Officials said according to a witness to the incident, Thomas had a firearm and the victim, Traylor, warned him to be careful with the gun.

They said at that time, Thomas said the firearm was empty, pointed it at Traylor and pulled the trigger, shooting Traylor.

This is an ongoing investigation.
