Suspect van in attempted kidnapping case found

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Fort Walton Beach Police are still looking for the suspect in an attempted kidnapping, but have found the suspected vehicle.

According to police, Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies stopped the vehicle near Eglin Parkway and Hollywood Boulevard. They say the two people in the van also fit the description of the two suspects from the attempted kidnapping.

Police say they have identified the people inside the vehicle, questioned them, and released them pending further investigation.

Fort Walton Beach police say a woman told them she was walking the trail in Ferry Park when she saw a gray painter's-style van.

They say she noticed the same van with its rear cargo doors open when she was reaching the end of the trail, according to a police report.

The woman said she saw two men standing near the van when they attempted to physically subdue her and put her into the back of the van.

The victim was able to escape and contact police.

She suffered only minor injuries in the altercation.

The men are described as between 38 to 45 years old. One man is described as 6'0" tall black male. The other suspect is a white man with hazel eyes and a white beard.

The vehicle was described as a light gray painter’s-style van with a tinted window on the side, two cargo-style doors at the rear, and trash and papers scattered across the front dash.

This is an ongoing investigation. Police are reminding everyone to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity.
