PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A sewage leak was discovered in a wooded area near N. Palo Alto Avenue.
According to Panama City's Public Works Department, they were able to stop the leak and repair the sewage line shortly after it was discovered.
Panama City's Public Works Department determined that the sewage leak runoff went into Watson Bayou, however, it is not known when the leak started and how many gallons of sewage was leaked.
The Bay County Health Department has put out a swimming advisory for Watson Bayou between 10th Street and Business Highway 98 until further notice.
Sewage contamination can cause swimmers to get intestinal viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
The City notified the Florida Department of Environmental Protection of the leak and is testing the water in Watson Bayou until test results are clear.
