Good Thursday morning everyone!
Meteorologist Ryan Michaels points out some hot temperatures for this afternoon.
It's a quiet start on radar with clear skies overhead. Yet, we're waking up with quite a bit of fog, and it will be thick in many locations this morning. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Okaloosa County this morning for visibility below a quarter mile. However, it's below a quarter mile for most of I-10 on down toward Marianna and also stretching down Hwy79 & 77. So give yourself a bit of extra time out the door this morning in anticipation of slower travels on these roadways. The fog will likely last through about 8 or 9am before lifting out into a bit of cloud cover.
Plenty of sunshine awaits for the afternoon today, and some downright hot temperatures as well. Highs today climb into the low 80s on the coast all the way up to near 90 degrees inland! That's a solid 10-15 degrees above average for late March, where average highs are closer to 73 or 74°. In fact, we may come close to some record highs from the Tri-State near Marianna to Tallahassee, where Tally's record high for March 26th is 90° set back in 1929.
We'll see this big time above average heat stick around through tomorrow and Saturday. High pressure is building in from the surface to aloft in the atmosphere. The sinking motion brought on by this ridge of high pressure in the atmosphere, not only gives us the beautiful sunshine heading our way by the midday and afternoon, but the sinking motion is a warming process in the atmosphere. We'll be under this ridge through tomorrow and into the first half of the weekend before we see a pattern change.
Troughing from the Western US in the upper levels of the atmosphere will slide to the east helping to push back this ridge and breaking our hot temperatures in the process. Highs look to come down closer to 80 degrees by early next week, which is still about 5 degrees above average.
For today, fog from the morning lifts out by 9am to a bit of cloud cover before skies turn mainly sunny into the midday and afternoon. Highs today reach the low 80s on the coast to the toasty upper 80s near 90° inland this afternoon. Your 7 Day Forecast keeps this heat around for another couple days before we see it beginning to break by Sunday and next week.
