Tropical System Could Impact Northern Gulf Coast

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - An area of low pressure will move out over the Gulf in the next 24hours and right now there is an 80% chance that it will become a depression the the next 5 days. Model are split on how strong it will become as some day it will be no more than a depression while the Euro points to a Cat 1 hurricane. Regardless of the strength it will be move west and bring a threat for heavy rain to our area through Friday. Right now we are expected 3-6" of rain and possibly as much as 8". While the storm is closest to our area it will likely be very weak so no surge or wind impacts are expected. For now, we see this as only being a rain event for our area.

Obviously we need to watch this carefully as things can change and we will keep you posted with the very latest.
