Visit South Walton helps promote new American Airline flights

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport recently announced a new airline coming to Panama City.

Now, local tourist development councils are looking to band together to promote the new flights.

To get the new American Airlines routes off the ground, the Walton County Tourist Development Council is putting some skin in the game.

"Walton County gets a lot of air travel our way so this is definitely something we want to feed. So, if they're flying in from Dallas, which is a new and emerging market, we see big potential," Visit South Walton Director of Communications David Demarest said.

Officials said a majority of their visitors flying in come from ECP, so Tuesday the council agreed to commit $75,000 toward marketing for the airport's latest additions.

"[We're doing] everything we can do to make it easier to get to our destination. We think once people see our beaches they're not going to want to go anywhere else," Demarest said.

Panama City Beach's TDC is also participating in the joint marketing effort, matching Visit South Walton's $75,000.
